ROTC & the US Army Reserve
Looking for hands-on job experience while getting an education? Joining the ROTC at your college or university can be a step in the right direction, whether you have specific plans for the future or not. ROTC has a few different commitments to choose from, making it flexible for any goals to be fulfilled. Army ROTC cadets can receive not only scholarships for tuition assistance, but they can also receive additional training in more advanced courses.
Depending on the level of commitment, there may be some contract to agree to join the military for a certain number of years after graduation. This commitment period can depend on a variety of factors, including:
•
Accepting an Army ROTC scholarship
Winners of the scholarship must agree to 4 years of full time service to
the Army, while other cadets may sign up for a 3 year period
•
Entering the Army ROTC Advanced Course
Must agree to serve full time for the Army for 3 years, or 4 if accepting
an Army ROTC scholarship
•
Enrolling in the Army ROTC Basic Course
Unless you receive an ROTC scholarship, enrolling in this course does NOT
require a commitment to the Army
After graduation from college and ROTC, you enter the military at a management position and continue on in promotions or settle into a great career path. Some cadets also have the option of serving part time in the Army thought the United States Army Reserve, or the Army National Guard. Cadets going on in civilian careers may find that this option of enlistment works best for their life goals, allowing them to carry on with day to day routines while still serving their country.
Before signing any contract or accepting any scholarships, check with the
Military Science department at your college or university to find out
more information
on ROTC commitment requirements.
